Reloncavi Estuary ITINERARY

Review
The route of the Relocaví Estuary begins in the beautiful city of Puerto Varas, pedaling at the edge of Llanquihue  Lake , we will enter to the Vicente Perez Rosales National Park, where we will see the Petrohué waterfalls. We will continue to the south through landscapes full of native forest to know the town of Cochamó, we will follow our circuit bordering the Reloncaví Estuary, passing by the town of Río Puelo famous for fishing sports and we will continue pedaling until we connect with Carretera Austral at the town of Contao, from this point we will border the Pacific to finish on the city of Puerto Montt, capital of  Lakes Region.

DAY 1

PTO VARAS

Arrival TO Puerto Varas, we will meet at 17.00 hrs in the hostel to make an induction to the route, itineraries and description of program, to then review the travel equipment and the condition of our bicycles. At dinner we will give you some travel recommendations, road safety and minimum impact practices.

DAY 3

COCHAMÓ

Bordering the Petrohué River, we begin the journey through a landscape of deep forests and views of lagoons and mountains. After reaching its outfall at Ralún sector, through a gravel road the landscape of the Reloncaví Estuary will accompany us to the town of Cochamó, we will take a break to see the waterfront and admire the architecture of the city, specially the church built with larch tiles to continue the journey until we reach the entrance road to the Cochamó Valley, where the landscape of the native forest will concentrate all our attention and senses.

DAY 4

PUELO

we will prepare our bicycles to continue our journey. Bordering the Reloncaví Estuary and continuing  along the gravel road, we will have panoramic views where it is possible to see how the local salmon industry has developed. At the end, we will enter by paved road, passing over the Puelo River bridge. This river is well known by lovers of Flyfishing that is part of the culture of Puelo. Here we will enjoy the beauty of nature to charge energy for next days

DAY 5

CONTAO

Through a winding path of gravel and slopes that increase the difficulty of the route, we will continue our last stretch bordering the Reloncaví Estuary, we will reach the sector of Caleta Puelche, where we will access to the Route 7, better known as Carretera Austral, we will continue the last 10 km paved to the town of Contao, where we will enjoy a great dinner with local products of the sea.

DAY 2

ENSENADA

This first section will be done in a bike path, we will border the Llanquihue Lake and having beautiful panoramic views of the Osorno Volcano, we will arrive to the town of Ensenada and continue the journey until we reach to the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park, we will visit the sector of  Petrohue waterfalls , where we will walk along paths and viewpoints that show the beautiful of Petrohué River formations. We will continue this last stretch to the  Petrohué sector where we can visit the lake of ''todos los santos''.

DAY 6 

PTO MONTT

into the Austral road, we will return to Caleta Puelche, in this place we will embark on a ferry that will sail through the Reloncaví Estuary to Caleta La Arena. We will resume the route by paved road and bordering the pacific coast, we will continue our last section passing through the rural sectors to finally reach the city of Puerto Montt. where we will complete the trip and a great night of celebration and closure of the adventure

ACCOMMODATION

Hostel or cabins, 3 nights.  

Camping, 3 nights. ((Includes tents for 2 and 3 people sharing).

FEEDING

Breakfast: (prepared by accommodation service and guide staff)
Snack: (prepared by guide staff).
Dinner: (prepared by accommodation service or local restaurants)

TRANSPORT

Ferry crossing Reloncaví Estuary.

GUIDED STAFF

Tour leader: Cycling tour guide, responsible for the expedition, certified in first aid, knowledgeable in environmental interpretation and bicycle touring, intermediate or advanced level in English

Truck: Driver, is responsible for the support vehicle, to give technical assistance with the repo bike service, food logistics on route and in charge of emergency evacuations.

Mechanic: Cycling tour guide, responsible for the mechanics of bicycles and monitoring of the tour group cycling equipment. Advanced knowledge in mechanics and bicycle touring recommendations.

EQUIPMENT

Camp: Tents marmot 3 stations, for 2 to 3 people, community dome, kitchen implementation.

Safety, communications and first aid: Spine board, orthopaedic neck brace, first aid kits in the car and for the guides on route, VHF communication radios for staff, satellite telephone

Mechanics: Repobike service (spare bike on route in case of serious mechanical failure of personal equipment), tool box, accessories and spare parts.
